Our motto, “Cowards are not invited,” encapsulates the spirit of our founder, Alex Tsalagas, whose journey from the hills of the Hot Gates of Greece to the bustling streets of Boston is woven into every rich, robust bean we offer.
Alex’s story begins in the rugged landscapes in the city of Hot Gates, Greece, a place of the famous battle of Thermopylae where the Spartans bravely fought the invading Persian army. Growing up amidst a culture known for its unwavering strength and determination, Alex developed a deep appreciation for quality and excellence. This ethos guided him throughout his life, especially when he later found himself in the heart of the Boston, working as a contractor.
Early mornings were a constant in Alex’s life, and they always began with a cup of coffee. However, he faced a common dilemma—finding coffee that was strong enough to fuel his day without the bitter or burnt aftertaste. Of course, this struggle wasn’t unique to contractors. Business professionals, busy parents, and individuals who were simply looking for good coffee echoed the same sentiment.
Driven by his passion for coffee and perfection, Alex delved into researching the coffee industry. What he discovered was a stark contrast between the emphasis on packaging and marketing in mass production and the neglect of ensuring coffee quality. Determined to make a difference, Alex embarked on a global journey, exploring coffee production methods and seeking the perfect combination of taste and effect.
Alex identified several sources and forged relationships with fair trade coffee vendors around the world. Understanding the importance of precision in the roasting process, he formed an alliance with a local coffee roasting company that shared his commitment to doing things just right.
